It is “PETITE MAMAN”
THE
WINNING FILM
OF THE FIRST EDITION

“Petite Maman” by Céline Sciamma is the winning film of the first edition of the “Società Umanitaria President’s Award”.
To Céline Sciamma, director of “Tomboy” (2011), “Girlhood” (2014), and “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” (2019), our heartfelt congratulations.

CÉLINE SCIAMMA wins the Società Umanitaria President’s Award in the first edition of “Al femminile”.
Alongside the French director and screenwriter, the Italian distribution companies that brought the film to our cinemas were also awarded: CG Entertainment and Theodora Film.

The award jury composed of:

Annarita Briganti, Paola Casella, Vittorio Lingiardi, Caterina Liverani, Paolo Mereghetti, Marina Pierri, Valentina Torrini
awards the prize to “Petite Maman” by Céline Sciamma with the following STATEMENT:

In Céline Sciamma’s storytelling, the “women’s perspective” is life itself. In the dreamlike space of early childhood, eight-year-old Nelly can befriend the little girl her mother once was, in the very same woods where she now wanders. In the magical yet real dimension of childhood language, it becomes possible to imagine inviting grief, illness, and abandonment—those awaiting us in adulthood—and sealing them inside a hut made of branches and leaves.
With her ability to “speak plainly,” avoiding any emphasis and never chasing the viewer’s emotions, Sciamma confirms her greatness as both director and screenwriter.
In the sacred temple of childhood, where past and future reflect on the surface of the present, femininity for Sciamma means listening, welcoming the intimate and secret truth of every deep and authentic relationship.
