IT IS “MAREA”
THE WINNING
SCREENPLAY
OF THE FIRST EDITION

The jury of the Award, composed of Donatella Finocchiaro, Alina Marazzi, Virginia Valsecchi, Luca Bigazzi, Francesca Marciano, Consuelo Catucci, Paola Bizzarri, Fabio Ferzetti, and Emanuele Trevi, has awarded the prize to “Marea” by Alice Manzati.

To Alice and to Tommaso Matano, the editor who supported her, our warmest congratulations.

ALICE MANZATI wins the first prize with the screenplay “Marea”, a drama. Her work was mentored by Tommaso Matano, one of our five editors who took part in this first edition to support the finalists in developing their projects.

STATEMENT:

The worlds that Marea tells — and powerfully evokes — are the human landscapes we wish to see represented in cinemas and on screen.
The young screenwriter, Alice Manzati, draws on genre structures, but does so by choosing a social reality still largely unexplored: a slice of life of second-generation Latin American immigrants on the outskirts of the greater Milan area.
The jury’s invitation — in awarding the screenplay’s development potential — is to preserve the freshness, originality, and authenticity of the characters, and to carry through the moving and compelling story of Gabriel’s redemption, along with that of the many other invisible figures like him who walk beside us, struggling not to be overwhelmed and swept away by the tide of marginalization.
