The ALF WOMEN’S CINEMA AWARDS, promoted by Società Umanitaria of Milan, are the first Italian and international cinema awards dedicated to women who have chosen cinema as their profession.

If it is true that the male gaze still dominates, it is not enough to simply encourage the hiring of female directors or to increase women’s professional expertise — more radical measures are needed to promote award policies for female-driven projects, designed by women themselves. And that is exactly what we have done.

The project is supported by renowned professionals in the industry, including director Cristina Comencini who, in the interview *Al femminile, premi cinematografici Società Umanitaria* with Enrico Nosei, Director of Programming at Cineteca di Milano, offered advice to the candidates, concluding: “I am a woman, therefore I encourage, help, and care. We are different.”
And Maria Pia Calzone, actress and member of the Gender Equality Observatory of the Ministry of Culture, interviewed for us, added: “The fight against inequality — on and off set — is a journey we must take together, because nothing is stronger than a man who legitimizes taking a stand.”
