ALF June 4–8 Program Schedule

Thursday, June 4, Cinema Arlecchino, 5:00 PM

From the partnership between ALF Women’s Film Awards and Cineteca Italiana came the idea of enriching the Festival with a new feature. Starting from this edition, we are introducing an out-of-competition title: a film selected from the rich Milanese archive, considered worthy of being re-screened or rediscovered, and carrying a significant women-centered cinematic value.

The chosen film is Cléo from 5 to 7 by Agnès Varda, for the following reason: a jam session of faces, bodies, places and streets where, through the shadow of death, the desire for life is celebrated. This is Cléo from 5 to 7, one of the purest examples of Nouvelle Vague aesthetics. We owe it to a female voice, that of Agnès Varda, director — and photographer — who made expressive freedom and creative independence the hallmark of both her human and professional identity.

Masterclass with Enrico Nosei (Cineteca di Milano) and Luisella Farinotti (Professor of Film Studies and Film Aesthetics), followed by a screening of the film.

Saturday, June 6, Cinema Arlecchino, 5:00 PM

Meeting with Margarethe von Trotta and Felice Laudadio (journalist, writer, screenwriter and film producer); moderated by Ilaria Florean (writer, scholar and editorial director). A screening of Rosa Luxemburg (1986) will follow, starring Barbara Sukowa, winner of the Best Actress Award at the 39th Cannes Film Festival for this role. A unique opportunity to see one of von Trotta’s masterpieces on the big screen, unavailable in Italian and exceptionally re-screened for this occasion. The screening is made possible thanks to Cineteca di Milano, partner of ALF Women’s Film Awards, and in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Mailand.

Saturday, June 6, Via Solari 40, 9:00 PM

The musical duo from Zurich — composed of Lila Lisi and Bruno Altermatt — brings their songs about courage, anger, power, love, friendship and solidarity. An evening dedicated to folk music with a tribute to Rosa Balistreri. Concert promoted by the Primo Quartiere Umanitaria Tenants’ Committee (Via Solari 40) together with MM, as part of the initiative Il Cortile di casa. Free admission subject to seat availability.

Sunday, June 7, Via Solari 40, 9:30 PM

Scintille Open-Air Cinema Circuit, Via Solari 40, hosts the screening of Gloria! (a film competing in the third edition of the Best European Film by Women Award) by Margherita Vicario, winner of the David di Donatello for Best Directorial Debut (2025) and the Nastro d’Argento for Best Original Score (2024). Introduction curated by ALF Women’s Film Awards. Event organized in collaboration with the Primo Quartiere Operaio Umanitaria Tenants’ Committee and MM as part of the initiative Il cortile di casa. Free admission subject to seat availability.

Monday, June 8, Casa degli Artisti, Corso Garibaldi 89/A, 6:30 PM

Talk: A Face in the Crowd, the role of advertising in shaping public opinion. With Lola Manrique Garcia (Creative Director at SBAM Creative Agency | ADCI Equal Team Member | IUAD Professor) and Debora Magnavacca (Board Member & Executive Producer at AKITA FILM and IED Professor); moderated by Monica Lazzarotto (Youmark). Award ceremony for the commercial created by students of the IED Video Design course in collaboration with ADCI Equal, commissioned by Doctors of the World. Event organized by ALF Women’s Film Awards in support of the ADV European Women Directors Award.
