WOMEN
SCREENWRITERS
AWARD
01
AWARD & OPPORTUNITY
The initiative aims to be the first link in a network of meetings, debates, training, and promotion of the work of Italian women screenwriters. Its ambition is to offer them the opportunity to effectively present their ideas and meet potential commissioners.
New this year: In addition to the three months of mentorship offered to the five finalists — with an editor (or a professional screenwriter) supporting them in completing their proposed screenplay — one of them will also have the chance to access Milano Pitch with her screenplay, thanks to a new collaboration between ALF Women’s Cinema Awards, Università Cattolica, and the Luchino Visconti School of Milan.
The €5,000 prize will be awarded during the ceremony of the third edition, to be held in June 2026, in Milan.
Once again this year, the preliminary selection is entrusted to a committee of experts composed of the ALF organizing team and the story editors from Read My Script (a development and story editing platform for screenwriters, production companies, and distributors).
New this year: the evaluation table — including the score breakdown of its components — is published in the competition rules, to ensure maximum transparency in the selection process and help participants present their proposals in the best possible way.
02
THE SELECTION
In the first phase, applicants are required to submit three documents: a short pitch, the story outline, and the development of one scene (chosen freely) from the proposed screenplay. The preliminary selection will be carried out by the ALF Women’s Cinema Awards committee and the story editors of Read My Script.
New this year: At the end of the selection process, scores for each evaluation criterion will be published on the website (anonymously, using the registration number) to ensure full transparency.
In the second phase, the five finalists will work on the treatment and full screenplay, supported by their assigned editor who will guide them through the three-month training process. At the end, the completed screenplays will be reviewed and evaluated by a technical jury.
All participants will have the opportunity, upon request, to access a personalized consultation at the discounted price of €60 (instead of the standard €89), offered by the Read My Script team.
The consultation will be held via Zoom and will last 1 hour. It will include an analysis of all indicators from the evaluation sheet; strengths and weaknesses of the project; narrative and production potential; possible editorial development paths; and market positioning strategies.
An exclusive opportunity to grow in your professional screenwriting journey, created especially for ALF Women’s Cinema Awards.
